Frequent Questions on Interpretation and Translation

Εικονίδιο Εσωτερικής Σελίδας (Κάτω από τίτλο)

There is a frequent misconception that an interpreter and a translator are the same thing. Whereas both parties are engaged with the task of conveying meaning from one language to the other, there are some major differences between them. Read the following questions to discover the service that will cover your needs effectively.

What exactly does the translator do?

The translator deals with the translation of the written word, such as texts, certificates, contracts, websites and all kinds of documents. The final result will result from extensive research and hard work, and in some cases the translation process is supported and confirmed using translation tools.

Each professional translator, working with ABA Ermis, translates into their native language and specializes in a specific field, such as legal, technical, medical, commercial, or financial translations.

What exactly does the interpreter do?

The interpreter translates the spoken word either after the speaker (consecutive interpretation) or simultaneously with the speaker (simultaneous interpreting). Interpretation requires special skills such as excellent knowledge of both languages, confidentiality, excellent listening and memory skills, clarity in speech and acute perception since translation is made on real time and there is no room for mistakes, overlooks or misunderstandings.

At ABA ERMIS, we work with professional, certified interpreters, able to meet the high demands of conferences, business meetings, seminars and court hearings.

Give me some examples to help me understand the differences between the translator and the interpreter.

In the courtroom, the interpreter is present, who takes over the translation between the two parties. However, the translation of the legal documents will be entrusted to the translator.

Also, at a business meeting, the translation of the negotiation is undertaken by the interpreter while the translation of the contracts will be entrusted to the translator.
